Why do you add 10% at the register?

We view this as a new, more cost effective, way to buy groceries! We sell our goods at cost—plus 10%. The 10% is added at the register and is highlight on each of our receipts.

This feels like a tax—is it?

This is not a tax—we simply show you what we paid for the products, then add 10% at the register. Most grocery stores don't show you what they paid for the product—all you see is the pre-marked up price.
